CASE STUDY · AFRO ROYAL TRESSES

Finding the constraint behind the growth.

Campaign optimization · Acquisition efficiency

A business with demand, but a growth system that needed work.

Afro Royal Tresses is a salon serving customers in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph, with services spanning hair washing, blowouts, locs, braids and cornrows.

The business had demand and a functioning service operation. The opportunity was not simply to generate more attention. It was to improve how marketing spend translated into customers and revenue.

01 · THE CONSTRAINT

More advertising wasn’t the answer.

The challenge was not simply a lack of traffic.

Campaign performance showed that broad targeting could generate substantial activity, but much of that activity was not translating efficiently into valuable customer actions.

The key question therefore became:

Where is the advertising system losing value?

Rather than responding by simply increasing spend, we focused on identifying where the existing acquisition structure could be made more efficient.

02 · THE DIAGNOSIS

Search intent mattered.

Our analysis showed an important distinction between generating clicks and reaching people with meaningful purchase intent.

Broad match could surface a large volume of searches, but the additional reach did not produce the same efficiency as tighter targeting.

HIGHER-INTENT SEARCH

Phrase and exact match targeting provided a more efficient route toward the services and searches that mattered.

CAMPAIGN STRUCTURE

Reducing duplication and concentrating spend around stronger opportunities helped improve the efficiency of the acquisition system.

03 · THE LIFT

We focused the system on what mattered.

REFINE

Move away from unnecessary broadness and toward stronger search intent.

CONCENTRATE

Reduce duplicated opportunities and direct spend toward higher-value areas.

OPTIMIZE

Use campaign performance and conversion data to continuously identify where the next improvement could come from.

04 · THE RESULT

The lift showed up in the economics.

REVENUE GROWTH

By improving the efficiency and focus of the acquisition system, the business was able to translate its marketing activity into stronger revenue performance.

WHAT CHANGED

BEFORE

Spend was distributed across opportunities with differing levels of intent and efficiency.

THE LIFT

Campaign structure and targeting were refined around stronger opportunities.

AFTER

The business achieved stronger revenue performance from a more focused acquisition system.

The constraint wasn’t demand. It was efficiency.

The business didn’t necessarily need more activity.

It needed more of the right activity to translate into economic results.
